Support to Quality Food Products in Croatia for Improved Backward Linkages Between Local Agrifood Companies and Farmers

This project funded by the EBRD and FAO, aimed on the one hand to strengthen the capacity of institutions responsible for geographical indications in Croatia, and on the other hand, to support two products with geographical indications, the Mandarin of the Neretva and Kulen of Baranja. In both cases, the objective was to assist value chain stakeholders to initiate collective actions. The project also aimed at linking small agriculture holders to agro-industry for as better value chain governance and improved quality. Achievements: Registration of Kulen of Baranja PGI and Mandarine of the Neretva both at national and European levels Improved functioning and procedures of the Commission for Geographical Indications in the field of instruction and assessment of applications. Linking Nature Protection and Sustainable Development in Bulgaria

The project, developed in the framework of the Suisse contribution to the expansion of the EU, aims at showing that the protection of the environment and natural resources are consistent with the sustainable development of rural areas. The project is undertaken by a coalition of 6 Bulgarian and 3 Swiss NGOs. REDD association assumes the project management and provides technical input and expertise on farm and agricultural related issues. Achivements: REDD has successfully back-stopped the management of this large project involving 9 partner NGOs. The project has, amoungst others, successfully : Tested and introduced Payment of Ecoservices Schemes, provided training to park administrators, supported farmers in developping on farm processing and marketing their products, promoted the concept that nature protection and rural development are not only compatible, but mutually reinforcing , and through intense policy dialogue, improved legislation to the advantage of sustainable agriculture and boidiversity protection.
